Feels LikeVery pleasant

The Moon looks a little indistinct but I think that is as a result of reflection in and fingerprints and dirt on the bus window rather than atmospherics. There is humidity in the air but it is a lot dryer than it has been lately.

Observing PartyCharlie Ridgway

I just remembered that I had forgotten to move this observing session from my PDA to the blog. It was fully documented at the time so nothing has been forgotten. But since the weather was not great I had not checked any of my target lists and didn’t realize I should have been looking for Saturn near the Moon, not that I would have seen it without optics under these observing conditions, but if I had known maybe I would have had the Bruntons with me.

Virtual Moon Atlas graphic
The Moon was up there fairly equidistant between Saturn and Regulus Venus a short distance farther out ahead of them.

Starry Night Starter graphic
I was able to see a little bit of earthshine on the dark portion of the Moon.

At 0600 EDT, when I arrived at HoS, the Moon and Venus were only occasional glows in the overcast sky.

The air over here feels much warmer and more humid than it did in the Bronx or even in downtown Flushing just 1.4 miles away as the proverbial crow flies (if he flies in a straight line, which I doubt).

Disclaimer
This is my personal record of my astronomical observations. It was written for my personal reference. The only reason it is in a blog is that a blog is a very convenient way to get the records formatted more or less uniformly and they will, hopefully, have greater longevity at Google where the servers are backed up than on my hard drive which never gets backed up. I occasionally include copyrighted material in my posts. I do this to make it convenient for me to access things I think I might want to refer to again. I think of this like making a photocopy of something I read that I put in a file where I can find it when I want it. As I understand copyright law, as explained in the DVD series Copyright Compliance by Chip Taylor Communications, this use is allowed under the Fair Use doctrine since I am not making any money on this blog, I don’t publicize the blog, and only occasionally post small excerpts of copyrighted works.
