The clouds are varying up to nearly 50% cover, but most of it is thin cirrus stuff. It doesn’t make me want to rush home for optics to observe later tonight though.

I don’t understand this one. I was in the right spot with a good view of the target chunk of sky and the surrounding area as well. A Mag -8.2 flare should have shown through the clouds that were up there. That is brighter than Jupiter which I have seen through cirrus and stratus clouds before.
