It was cold, but since I had put on the woollies and my parka it didn’t feel all that bad – except for my feet.
The air seemed a lot more stable tonight than last night. I did not detect any thin clouds but had trouble seeing 17P/Holmes. I don’t know how much of that is the effect of the nearly full Moon and how much is the comet fading.

I have my comet comparison star list and spreadsheet but can’t see the comet well enough to use them. I couldn’t find it at all in the binocular and missed it at first in the scope but then it came faintly into view as my eye dark adapted. Going back to the binocular I found it knowing right where to look. I thought it was right near HIP 15420 and Planetarium confirmed that.

This is larger than others are assessing its size, but in line with what I saw last night.

The western limb of the Moon looks lumpy from around Hevelius down to around Boguslawsky, especially around Mare Orientale where I can definitely see the outside of the rim in profile. The Montes Cordillera look very nice with some “plateau” and a pass between them, and shadow below them and on the rounded edges.

I noticed yesterday that the template I use as the basis for these posts was still saying we were in Daylight Saving Time. I have corrected the template so the times should be correct from now until we switch times again on 9Mar08. I also went back through the blog and think I have corrected all the time references between 4Nov07 and today. the numbers were right, as were any UT times that were listed, it just said EDT when it should have said EST.
