Put three grains of sand inside a vast cathedral, and the cathedral will be more closely packed with sand than space is with stars.

Sir James Jeans

We got our first significant snowfall of the season last night. I don't think it will classify as plowable snow, and my building management certainly didn't do any plowing or shoveling, but it has persisted for over 12 hours. NOAA says we got 1.0" of snow yesterday, which would not include any snow that fell between midnight and when it stopped falling or how much accumulation there was. Although it is clear out now, there may be more precipitation of an undetermined type and amount late tomorrow night through Friday. It doesn't sound like I will get my full Moon rising pictures made this lunation.

I am seeing penumbra around the spots today. Group 940 has changed a good bit since yesterday..

I can are penumbra around the spot to the SE and a slight indication of plage surrounding it. The presence of penumbra seems to indicate that there is more than one spot here even though that is all I can see.

My PC is dying so there may not be many posts until I figure out what is wrong with it and fix it or replace it.

Disclaimer
This is my personal record of my astronomical observations. It was written for my personal reference. The only reason it is in a blog is that a blog is a very convenient way to get the records formatted more or less uniformly and they will, hopefully, have greater longevity at Google where the servers are backed up than on my hard drive which never gets backed up. I occasionally include copyrighted material in my posts. I do this to make it convenient for me to access things I think I might want to refer to again. I think of this like making a photocopy of something I read that I put in a file where I can find it when I want it. As I understand copyright law, as explained in the DVD series Copyright Compliance by Chip Taylor Communications, this use is allowed under the Fair Use doctrine since I am not making any money on this blog, I don’t publicize the blog, and only occasionally post small excerpts of copyrighted works.
