There were stripes of cloud blowing quickly across the sky. Out to the W where the clouds were backlit I could see precipitation falling from the bottom of some of the clouds.

When I left the library I could see the Moon in the early twilight so decided to walk over to the Cross Bronx Expressway to try to find Mercury. I didn't have the Palm with me but know that Mercury is approaching greatest Eastern elongation and setting after sunset so I figured I might have a shot at it. A block from my normal location I could see Venus shining brightly, but it was above a stripe of cloud which is where Mercury should have been.

The Moon was at the junction of Aur, Gem and Tau but had officially just entered Aur from Gem.
One minute the Moon was in clear air and the best it was lighting up clouds around it.
I could make out a dark circle with some lighter gray splotches around it. That would have been Mare Crisium. |
