Conditions
HHH. The haze was lit up around the sun and patches of thin cloud occasionally passed in front of it. There was some air movement but not enough to make it feel comfortable out.

CommentsWhen I first observed the sun I only say 775 and 776. It wasn't until a cloud passed over the sun and blocked some of its light that I saw 779. This is a case of less being more and I think I should put the aperture occulting disk in my filter cell and see if I can see more detail with less light.
775
NW quadrant. 775 is the closest to the limb. It still has a penumbra and two small satellite spots at the edge of the void surrounding it.
776
SW quadrant. 775 has a penumbra and one smaller spot trailing it at the edge of its void.
779
SE quadrant. These are two small spots, the leader is larger, surrounded by a void. This group may not have had a number at the time I observed it.

The Lacrosse 2 satellite was due to cross the disk of the sun at 1618 EDT. I was all set up and watched for several minutes on either side of that time but did not see any signs of the satellite. The transit duration was only 0.31 seconds.

Disclaimer
This is my personal record of my astronomical observations. It was written for my personal reference. The only reason it is in a blog is that a blog is a very convenient way to get the records formatted more or less uniformly and they will, hopefully, have greater longevity at Google where the servers are backed up than on my hard drive which never gets backed up. I occasionally include copyrighted material in my posts. I do this to make it convenient for me to access things I think I might want to refer to again. I think of this like making a photocopy of something I read that I put in a file where I can find it when I want it. As I understand copyright law, as explained in the DVD series Copyright Compliance by Chip Taylor Communications, this use is allowed under the Fair Use doctrine since I am not making any money on this blog, I don’t publicize the blog, and only occasionally post small excerpts of copyrighted works.
